Kusama is built as a "canary network" for Polkadot, a similar blockchain platform designed to support various independent chains with shared security. The Kusama network aims to facilitate experimentation with new features and innovations before they are integrated into Polkadot. The KSM cryptocurrency is used as the native token of the Kusama network, providing users with access to various services, including staking, governance, and fees. Kusama was founded by Gavin Wood, who is also a co-founder of Ethereum and the founder of Polkadot. The Kusama team is based in Zug, Switzerland.
